Question:

I have a fluffy wool mattress topper plus a thin flat wool protector mat. Would it make sense to encase the fluffy topper within the barrier cover? It certainly wouldn't feel as luxurious but do you recommend that?

Answers:

  • Since wool is naturally resistant to dust-mites, I wouldn't recommend putting the Wooly inside the Mattress Barrier cover, unless you are particularly concerned about bed-bugs.  As you mentioned, the Wooly would not feel as luxurious if it were placed underneath and would compress more quickly.  On the other hand, if you are using some kind of moisture pad (like our Flannel Mattress pad or Wool Moisture pad), it is probably best to put that on top of your Wooly (since the Wooly cannot be washed).

Question:

Seeing as this product is organic and listed as being simply really tightly woven fabric, what additional protection exists as part of the product to ensure that bedbugs are unable to bite through the mattress cover?

Answers:

  • There is no need for extra protection because bedbugs can't bite through the cloth.

Question:

If my mattress is not new, is there even any point to introducing a barrier cover at this point?

Answers:

  • A barrier cover is definitely most effective if used from the start, but it can still help reduce the amount of allergens you are exposed (by basically trapping dust mites or bed bugs inside the cover and cutting off access to their food supply).  And, of course, it will prevent more of these pests from getting into your bed!

Question:

I have issues with my mattress getting hot were I sleep. does this help take the heat away and keep you cool at night?

Answers:

  • This product would not really help with staying cool, but our Wool Moisture Protector pad would!  Wool has wonderful temperature-regulating properties, so it is always our best recommendation for customers who sleep hot.

Question:

I am moving into the dorms next year and I was wondering if this would work as everything protector? What I mean is do I need anything else on top of this or can I just use this and put my sheets on top?

Answers:

  • The barrier cover will keep your mattress protected from dust mites and bed bugs, as well as keep the mattress clean, to a certain degree. It doesn't protect against moisture because it's just a single layer of breathable organic cotton (the Wool Moisture Protector pad is for moisture). It will also be a bit tricky to take off and on to wash, because it completely surrounds the mattress. Our Flannel Mattress Pad is the easiest all- purpose mattress pad for regular washing.

Question:

how do you removed the cotton zipable cover? It looks complicated if you have to remove the whole thing from top and bottom. a 2-person job? yikes!

Answers:

  • The mattress barrier cover has a zipper that runs around 3 sides (head, side, foot), leaving only one side attached, and exposing the whole mattress, making it easier to access.

Question:

No information given on zipper length and can't tell in photo. Does top separate from bottom? How far does the zipper extend around?

Answers:

  • The zipper on our mattress barrier extends around three sides of the mattress: one long side, plus both the head and the foot. The top and the bottom do not separate.
