Question:

My wife is allergic to latex, is this a problem with this mattress? or does the covering shield this from contact. Thanks

Answers:

  • Many customers who are sensitive to latex do not have a problem with this mattress, because they do not come in direct contact with the latex.  However, we would recommend testing samples of our mattress matierls, just to be sure that there is not a respiratory response.  The samples are free, we would just need to know what address to send them to!  Please feel free to give us a call at (800)284-4983 to request them.

Question:

for your rubber mattresses -- do they need to be aired out or maintained in any way? or can I purchase one and just leave it on my slat bed and it will be fine? will it absorb sweat? thanks

Answers:

  • We recommend rotating/flipping the mattress a few times a year to ensure even wear.  Other than that, the only other care would be keeping the mattress protected with a mattress pad (to prevent moisture from getting into the mattress) and keeping it away from extreme temperatures (like what it would be exposed to in a storage unit, for example).  The natural rubber and wool in this mattress are very breathable, which means that you shouldn't have issues with overheating on this mattress... however, we always recommend using a mattress pad, since moisture in your mattress can lead to mold/mildew issues.

Question:

Hello, how does this mattress arrive? Does it come as one solid piece or is it flexible? I have a very narrow staircase to navigate that a regular Cal King with springs cannot navigate without bending and breaking springs.

Answers:

  • This mattress is one piece and would be shipped flat in a mattress-sized box.  It is, however, very flexibale and could easily be maneuvered through a tight space once it is taken out of the box.

Question:

Can I put this mattress on the floor? It's for my 1 year old. He has been sleeping on a floor mattress since he was a few months old. I'm upgrading his mattress.

Answers:

  • We don't recommend putting our mattresses directly on the floor.  Any mattress should have adequate airflow, but it is especially important with our mattresses, since we do not use any of the chemical treatments used in conventional mattresses to prevent mold and mildew.  We would love to chat with you about low-profile options to support this mattress, though (such as a slatted-platform bed frame).  Please feel free to email or call us at (800)284-4983!

Question:

HELLO... Description states...6" core, total thickness 7"...what is in extra inch?

Answers:

  • The extra inch is accounted for by the dense layer of wool that is quilted into the cotton cover fabric.  The wool layer acts as our natural flame retardant (but has the added benefit of offering moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties).

Question:

How does this mattress ship? We would like a king-size but have a narrow staircase. Does it come compressed in boxes? Do any of your mattresses? (We'd most like an innerspring, but those almost never come compressed in boxes so might not fit.)

Answers:

  • The Euro ships flat in a big mattress shaped box. It is very flexible, however, so it can be taken out of the box to bend around corners (has a heavy-duty food-grade plastic bag wrapped around it). The Euro is probably the furthest from a spring mattress feel. We do have a pocket-coil innerspring mattress, called the Astar, that ships in individual smaller boxes, though. But, ultimately, we recommend you call us for a personal sleep consultation because we do have so many options which are all slightly or dramatically different! 1-800-284-4983

Question:

Description states "who prefer a medium-firm to firm organic mattress" I thought it had 3 firm levels, medium, medium-firm & firm? Is the entire latex a solid firmness and the same on both sides since this mattress is flip-able?

Answers:

  • Great questions! If, at any point, you need further clarification, please don't hesitate to call our knowledgable Product Specialists at 800-284-4983 M-F. Yes, the core of the Euro is one piece in the specified firmness, making it flippable and feeling the same on both sides. The reason it represents a medium-firm to firm feel is because it is a lower profile mattress taking on the firmness of what's below it. Used on a Quilted Box-Spring it will be softer, yet many people place it on a slat-platform or Wood-Slat Foundation creating a firmer feel and less movement. Probably best explained as: if a small child sleeps on a medium Euro it will feel medium. If a 100 pound person sleeps on a medium Euro it will feel medium-firm. If a 200 pound person sleeps on a medium Euro it will feel firm, because of the firm support below it. We typically recommend a medium-firm or firm Euro for adults and they will add a pillow top for softness on the top if they need it. We usually recommend a medium-firm Euro for children as well, to make sure there's enough support while they are growing and their bones are developing. Feel free to call for a free in-depth personal consultation.

Question:

Does this Euro mattress in Queen size require a box spring? If so is there a mattress that doesn't require a box spring?

Answers:

  • The Euro does not require a box spring, as long as it is used on either a wood-slat foundation or a platform-slat bed with slats 3" apart or less.

Question:

What do you mean when you say "metal free"?

Answers:

  • We say "metal-free" simply to point out that this mattress is made without metal coils.  We do make a few innerspring mattresses which, of course, are not metal-free (the Traditional, Combo and Sanora).  Some customers are concerned about electromagenetic fields (EMFs), which are conducted by metal in and around the bed... for this reason, we try to make it clear which mattresses have metal in them.

Question:

What chemicals and flame retardant materials do you use on your mattresses?

Answers:

  • Our mattresses are made without the use of added chemicals and compressed wool is the effective fire retardant. The Euro consists of three certified organic materials: natural rubber, cotton and wool.
