Why organic?

“If you care about your health, it’s important to learn about what you are sleeping on.”
— Athena Thompson, Building Biologist and Author of “Homes That Heal”

Dear Reader,

"Organic" is how humans have lived for hundreds of thousands of years, and evidently it has gotten us this far. Life was challenging in our ancient past, but at least our ancestors ate food and breathed air without synthetic influences. In recent years, synthetic alternatives have become available not because they were necessarily improvements over organic, but because they were exceptional profit centers – health was not a concern when polyurethane foam was introduced into sleep products.

You have no doubt noticed that there is a movement taking place in America. People are becoming more concerned with their health and the health of their families. Consumers are realizing more and more that their health is significantly related to the quality of the food they eat, the air they breathe, and the products they come into contact with. The result is that Americans are demanding higher purity from products they incorporate into their homes. In fact, as of 2016, 84% of American households have incorporated organic products into their lifestyles, according to the Organic Trade Association (OTA).

In 2022 we will celebrate the 25th year since I introduced Naturally Safer® and certified organic textiles into the American mainstream. Back then it was more difficult to find organic products that could substitute for products made from synthetic ingredients from foreign lands. We still don't have a ton of authentic certified organic suppliers, but Lifekind is one them.

My goal, from the outset, was to provide consumers with luxurious, comfortable and safer certified organic mattresses and bedding that improved sleeping comfort and your indoor air quality. I wish they could be priced for less, but we insist on hand-making our products using good old American labor and the finest certified organic materials money can buy.

Consumers all over the United States have depended on our integrity and purity, and we are proud to have the highest percentage of repeat and referral customers in the trade.

Why organic? It's safer, naturally. And since we all spend nearly a third of our lives in bed, reducing our exposure to chemicals during sleep and rest may be the most substantial change we can make to impact our health.

May you always sleep safe,

Walter L. Bader
