FAQ's
These FAQs are intended as general guidance. For specific questions about your order or mattress selection, please contact us for a free sleep consultation.
How do I choose the right firmness?
As a general guide: side sleepers tend to do best with Medium firmness, which allows the mattress to contour to hips and shoulders. Back sleepers usually prefer Medium-Firm for spinal alignment without feeling rigid. Stomach sleepers typically need Firm to prevent the hips from sinking and straining the lower back. Body weight matters too — if you're over 250 lbs, consider going one firmness level firmer than you normally would. When in doubt, our sleep specialists are available by phone for a free consultation.
What is the difference between your mattress models?
All Lifekind mattresses share the same certified organic materials - GOTS-certified organic cotton, organic wool batting, and natural Dunlop latex (our Traditional is latex-free) - but differ in construction and feel. The Euro is our bestselling all-latex mattress, made simply for lasting comfort and durability. The Euro Soft-Top adds a quilted cushion surface on one side for a softer sleep-surface feel. The Lassen features a sculpted pillow-top surface and fixed Medium firmness - our most-plush feeling, luxurious mattress. The Trio uses three customizable latex layers, with a an option to vertically split the middle layer so each partner can choose their own firmness. The Metta is similar to the Trio, but with one less layer, and can optionally be shipped by courier. The Combo pairs latex over an innerspring core for stronger edge support. The Traditional is our only latex-free option, built on an innerspring core with organic cotton and wool. If you're unsure, our mattress finder quiz can help narrow it down, or you can schedule a free sleep consultation by phone.
What foundation or base do I need?
Lifekind mattresses work with most solid bases including platform beds, slatted frames (slats no more than 3 inches apart), adjustable bases, and our own Upholstered Wood-Slat Foundation. We do not recommend placing a latex mattress directly on the floor or on a traditional box spring, as adequate airflow beneath the mattress is important. If you have questions about your existing base, call us and we can advise.
How long will my mattress last?
Lifekind mattresses are backed by a 20-year limited warranty and are built to be durable and provide lasting comfort. Natural latex is exceptionally durable and resilient - it is less likely to break down quickly or develop body impressions the way conventional foam may. With proper support and care, a Lifekind mattress can provide many years of comfortable sleep.
How does the 90-Day Comfort Exchange work?
If within 90 days of receiving your mattress - and after at least 15 nights of sleep - you find it is not the right firmness for you, we will work with you to find a solution. Our Mattress Comfort Exchange Policy covers adjustments and exchanges under specific conditions - please read the policy in full before purchasing. Note that this is a comfort exchange policy, NOT A RETURN OR REFUND. Because our mattresses are custom made to order, standard returns are not accepted.
What about free returns?
"Free trial” programs build the cost of returned mattresses into every order — which means customers who keep their mattress are helping pay for the ones that come back. But returned mattresses often cannot be resold as new, and in many cases they become waste.
For a Lifekind mattress, that would mean sending certified organic cotton, organic wool, and natural rubber latex into a disposal stream after only brief use. These materials begin with real farms, animals, soil, rain, skilled labor, and strict organic standards. We believe they deserve a more responsible model.
So our comfort commitment starts before your mattress is built. We help you choose carefully, make your mattress to order, and if the firmness needs adjustment after delivery, our 90-Day Comfort Exchange gives you a thoughtful path to fine-tune the feel.
Do you ship outside the contiguous US?
Currently we ship to the contiguous 48 US states only. We are not able to ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or international destinations at this time. Please contact us if you have questions about your location.
How long does it take to make and ship my mattress?
Every Lifekind mattress is made to order in the USA†. Generally speaking, lead time is 14–21 business days from order placement. Mattresses ship free via freight carrier (upon request the Metta mattress can be roll-packed and shipped by courier). You will receive tracking information when your order is scheduled to ship. Delivery to most locations in the contiguous US typically takes an additional 5–7 business days after the mattress leaves our facility.
Can I use an adjustable base with my Lifekind mattress?
Lifekind all-latex mattress models are compatible with adjustable bases. The Combo and Traditional models however are not to be used with an adjustable base due to their innerspring construction and edge-support.
Will my mattress off-gas when it arrives?
Natural latex has a mild, natural rubber scent when first unpacked - this is not a conventional chemical off-gas and dissipates within a few days of airing out. Customers who are sensitive to smells may want to allow a few days of ventilation in a well-aired room before use.
Do your mattresses contain chemical flame retardants?
No. Lifekind mattresses meet federal flammability standards through the natural fire-resistant properties of organic wool - no chemical flame retardants are used or needed. Wool is naturally flame-resistant due to its high nitrogen and water content, and it has been used as a natural fire barrier in organic mattresses for decades. Lifekind was in fact the first company to pass federal flammability standards with only wool.
Are your mattresses truly organic? What certifications do you hold?
Yes. Every Lifekind mattress is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) - the world's leading certification for organic textiles. GOTS covers the entire supply chain from raw fiber to finished product, including environmental and social criteria. Our certification number is CU 823400. Our latex is GOLS certified Dunlop natural latex derived from rubber tree sap. We do not use synthetic foams, chemical flame retardants, or any substances prohibited by the GOTS organic standard in any of our mattresses.
